Day 1 – Airport to Negombo

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your chauffeur guide and transferred to Negombo, a charming coastal town located north of Colombo. Known for its golden beaches, swaying coconut palms, and vibrant fishing culture, Negombo offers a relaxing start to your Sri Lanka journey. This coastal town breathes the true spirit of the sea and is famous for its fresh and delicious seafood. After checking into your hotel, you can relax and enjoy the peaceful beach atmosphere. Dinner and overnight stay in Negombo or Waikkal.

After breakfast, proceed to Sigiriya, located in Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. En route, visit the famous Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where you can observe rescued elephants being fed and bathing in the river. Upon arrival in Sigiriya, enjoy an optional lunch before visiting the magnificent Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century. Rising nearly 200 meters above the surrounding plains, Sigiriya is known as the “Lion Rock” and features ancient frescoes, landscaped gardens, and advanced hydraulic systems. After breakfast, enjoy an excursion to either Anuradhapura or Polonnaruwa, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites and former capitals of Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura, the island’s first capital, dates back to the 3rd century BC and is home to sacred temples, ancient monasteries, and the Sri Maha Bodhi tree grown from a cutting of the original tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Alternatively, Polonnaruwa, the island’s second capital, features well-preserved ruins, royal palaces, temples, and impressive stone sculptures from the 12th century. After exploring these remarkable historical sites, return to your hotel in Sigiriya and relax. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

After breakfast, depart for Kandy, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka. En route, visit the sacred Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its impressive cave temples filled with Buddha statues and ancient paintings. Continue with a visit to a spice garden, where you will learn about Sri Lanka’s world-famous spices and their traditional uses. Upon arrival in Kandy, enjoy a city tour including the scenic viewpoint and an optional visit to a gem museum. After breakfast, visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth, one of the most important Buddhist temples in the world, which houses a sacred relic of Lord Buddha. Afterwards, travel to Nuwara Eliya, a beautiful hill station known as “Little England” due to its cool climate and colonial charm. En route, visit the Hanuman Temple and Ramboda Waterfall, and stop at a tea plantation and factory to learn about Sri Lanka’s famous Ceylon tea production. After breakfast, enjoy one of the world’s most scenic train journeys from Nanu Oya to Ella, passing through breathtaking landscapes of tea plantations, misty mountains, waterfalls, and tunnels. Upon arrival in Ella, your chauffeur will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Later, visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, surrounded by lush greenery, and enjoy a hike to Little Adam’s Peak for panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Early in the morning, you have the option to go whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa, one of the best locations in the world to spot blue whales. Later, visit the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese and later fortified by the Dutch. Explore its charming streets, colonial architecture, lighthouse, and ocean views. You may also visit a turtle hatchery to learn about turtle conservation efforts. After breakfast, depart your hotel and travel to Colombo. Depending on your flight time, you may enjoy a brief city tour or shopping experience before proceeding to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure.
